Curriculum

Design

Curriculum is the most vital aspect of any preschool. In a preschool where children come in during their most important years of learning, a curriculum has to be designed with utmost care and perfection so that it caters to all areas of development. A curriculum that is designed well will ensure that the child develops skills and knowledge that are not only applied in the classroom, but in life as well. It has to make the child ready to face the challenges that he/she may face into their further studies, as well as facing challenges while growing up in society.

We have designed an integrated curriculum inspired by different Preschool Philosophies like :

Montessori: A philosophy where children of different age group work together with a lot of scientifically crafted material with self-directing control and conceptually designed material to cater each child’s developmental needs. It attempts to develop children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.

Steiner Waldorf: A philosophy where play-based approach is characterized by a predictable structure, providing children with a dependable routine, such as certain days of the week for set activities like baking or gardening. There is an emphasis on creative learning, reading, singing, acting, etc. It’s great for children who want that predictability, while not suppressing creativity.

Reggio Emilia:This approach is known for its Collaborative and Interaction focus, which many preschool programs have borrowed. Children are viewed as competent, curious, full of knowledge, potential, and interested in connecting to the world around them.

High Scope: A collaborative approach to child-learning. Children learn best through hands-on experiences with people, materials, events, and ideas.

Bank Street: This approach stresses the importance of materials in the classroom and views the teacher as a “facilitator of learning.” This method aims to help children make sense of the world around them by studying multiple aspects of social studies.

Creative Curriculum: This approach provides teachers with textbooks and written materials that outline a child-centred approach. It as a research-based system that is being used in an increasing numbers of preschool programs

Context plays a crucial role in the design of any curriculum. Though all the above mentioned philosophies are great on their own, they have been developed at various times, and at various places where the social, environmental, and economic factors varied a lot from our own. We need to adapt, incorporate, and develop the advantages of all the various approaches to suit our needs and environment. By doing this, we have developed a curriculum that is child-centric in its approach, and it ensuresan all-round development of the child within the context of our current environment. We strive to make sure that every child present in our classroom is interested, engaged, and fully understands and achieves the intended learning outcomes. Our curriculum is unique, and will only be found at our preschools.

Holistic

Development

The age group between 2 to 6 years are crucial for the development, not only in terms of Scholastic, but Non-scholastic, interpersonal and intrapersonal development. The Personality built and Neuro-development nurtured and cultivated in these years is what lays the base for a child’s personality as an adult.

Hence a holistic approach becomes a vital phenomena in the overall development of a child. We have activities and learning designed and structured to ensure a holistic development.

Areas of developmental focus:

  • Social Development

  • Cognitive Development

  • Emotional Development

  • Physical Development: Large/Gross Motor Skills; Small/Fine Motor Skills

  • Communication and Language Development

  • Creativity Development

Teaching Pedagogy

We at AIMSPreschool believe that anything that is introduced to a child in their early learning years has to be carefully designed and delivered to ensure a holistic development. Keeping this philosophy in mind, we have structured our teaching programme to emphasise self-learning through exploration, practice, and repetition. To achieve this, there are 3 main factors:

  • Learning Aids

  • The Right Environment

  • The Facilitator

We have well trained facilitators who know exactly when and how to gentlyand appropriately guide,/instruct/help a child while he/she is exploring theirenvironment and learning abilities. Our pedagogy is derived from various philosophies, taking the best that each has to offer, while making sure that the Child is at the centre of it all

All concepts are introduced in form of activities, with further presentations left at the child’s discretion to respect, practice, and consolidate the outcome on his/her own, with the teacher being the pillar in guiding them to achieve a meaningful learning outcome.

The Three Main Aspects for a perfect Teaching/Learning Pedagogy are:

Scientific/developmental learning Aids

  • Exercise of practical life where children are given unique, yet, commonly seen materials for motor and cognitive development.

  • Sensorial material to enhance and develop al their senses

  • Emotional and Social development through role-play

  • Literacy and Numeracy with well-designed and crafted learning aids

Environment

  • Child friendly

  • Catering to their developmental needs

  • Spacious, comfortable, modern

  • Hygienic

  • Well ventilated

  • Spacious and large play area

  • Splash pool

  • Gardening

  • Creative wall

  • Safe and Secure

Facilitator

  • Well trained

  • Experienced
